Smoked Italian Beef Sandwiches

Smoked Italian Beef Sandwiches

Overview: This is a Chicago classic, Italian Beef Sandwich, but amped up and perfect for tailgating. We start by smoking a whole chuck roast, then finishing it in a Miller Lite beer braise to get it super tender and perfect for shredding. The meat is then piled high on fresh rolls and finished with spicy peppers. Juicy, tender, savory and spicy, the perfect flavor combinations for tailgating.

Product Use: Miller Lite will be used in the braise to infuse additional beer flavor into the meat.

Ingredients

  • 1 can Miller Lite
  • 2-3 lb Beef Chuck Roast
  • 3 tbsp BBQ Seasoning
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 Yellow onion – sliced
  • 1 tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Small Jar Pepperoncini Peppers or Pickled Jalapenos
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 6 tbsp Mild or Hot Giardiniera
  • 6 Mini French Rolls

Preparation

Step 1
Season the chuck roast on all sides with 2 tbsp of BBQ seasoning and place on the grill or smoker, set for indirect heat and 250-275 degrees. Smoke the chuck roast for 3-4 hours, until it reaches an internal temperature of 160 degrees.

Step 2
In a large Dutch oven, add the onions, garlic, Miller Lite, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, pepperoncini peppers or jalapenos (with the liquid), the remaining BBQ seasoning and mix well. Add the chuck roast, cover, and place back on the grill.

Step 3
Increase the temperature to 300 degrees and cook until the chuck roast is fork tender. Approximately 3-4 hours.

Step 4
Shred the chuck roast in the Dutch oven with 2 forks and mix with the liquid.

Step 5
Assemble the sandwiches by placing a portion of the shredded meat in the French rolls, drizzle with the liquid and top with the giardiniera. Serve with an ice-cold Miller Lite and enjoy!
